CONSERVATION PROJECTS

Palm Oil

Saraya has been working on biodiversity conservation in Borneo and Sabah since 2004, helping with the expansion of sustainable palm oil.

Since being established in 1952, Saraya has produced multiple products using all-natural ingredients and materials. All with an intention to be evermore sustainable and green.

A huge part of that effort is on-going partnerships we’ve had with various organizations to protect the Borneo ecosystem from the devastating effects of the rise in Palm Oil demand. Palm oil is found in everyday items from cosmetics, detergents, and even food. Over the years the rise in demand for palm oil has led to the destruction of rainforests for the purpose of expanding plantations.

The Saraya Way

We donate 1% of all sales of Happy Elephant products to the Borneo Conservation Trust. We are involved in 4 conservation projects: the "Green Corridor" project, the "Suspension Bridge" project, the "Animal Rescue" project, and the "RSPO Affiliation and Certification" project.

What is the Borneo Conservation Trust (BCT)?

The Borneo Conservation Trust is a NGO recognized by the government of Sabah, Malaysia to buy back former rainforest lands to create a “green corridor” where a fallen ecosystem can rebuild and wildlife can roam free.

Consevation Projects

The Green Corridor

We work with the Borneo Conservation Trust to repurchase land that was lost to palm oil plantations to restore the rainforest habitat that was once there.

The Suspension Bridge of Life

Due to the seperation of rainforest lands many Orangutans have been isolated on forest” islands”. We are working on building suspension bridges to connect these islands and reconnect life throughout the forest.

RSPO Affiliation and Certification System

As the first company to join in Japan, we are working on making RSPO certified palm oil mainstream by discussing the rules of an environment-friendly palm oil industry together with related players such as farm owners, farmers, and trading companies.
